A Grand Celebration, or ninety years young
We got to celebrate this lovely lady today and went to a picnic party for her 90th birthday. Auntie C is the Man's aunt. The Man's sissy, B, was able to come to the party too. It was a grand day!
They love their Auntie C. She was that favorite aunt when they were growing up. She and Uncle B had three boys and the kids all loved playing together. Auntie C and Uncle B lived on the family farm so there was always some adventure to have playing in the barns, or with the cows, or in the fields, sledding down hills, down by the creek, over by the railroad tracks. Their childhood sounds very much like the movie "Stand By Me". A great movie, if you've never seen it.
And here we are, many years later, and she's still that favorite aunt.
Sissy B with little man O. She's a baby whisperer, too.
I think all grandmas are.
B has seven grandchildren of her own. She's a wonderful grandma. She teaches her little ones how to cook and bake and sew and quilt. They go sledding together, and pick blueberries together, and read together, and play games together. She learned how to be a grandma from her mama, my MIL.
One of the greatest grandmas I know.
B was walking around with little man O and he was nestled in her arms, cooing and talking to her. Perfectly content to look at her and hold on to her. He is loved by so many people.
90 years loved.
So true.
The cousins, so happy to be together. With everyone living so spread apart, it's rare for them all to be together.
And not everyone was able to be at the picnic. Two of the Man's siblings couldn't come. And one of Auntie C's boys passed away quite a few years ago.
Auntie C was quite a quilter and sewer. All of the quilts you see in these photos were made by her. The people in her life brought them to the party and hung them so everyone could see all the handiwork made by Auntie C over the years.
And this isn't even all of it.
__________
Someone told Auntie C that she had made all of these things.
"I did?" she asked.
She even amazed herself.
The first quilt she ever made is on the left. She made it for her first son.
The quilt on the right is the last one she made.
On the way home from the party. Such a happy looking pumpkin.
J and little man O.
Who is very interested in food. He's ready to eat that entire plate, I think.
One of the older quilts Auntie C made. It's aged beautifully.
Hanging out with the boys.
More beautiful quilts.
Sigh.
Pieces of art hanging in the air.
