D's Birthday Day

My niece, D, came to spend the night with us on Saturday. We were celebrating her birthday, five months late. Yikes.

We all had a busy summer and this was the first weekend we had to go birthday shopping.

We started with dinner out and a movie on Saturday night. We went to see "Wonder" with J and K. It was a fantastic movie. We all enjoyed it and fell in love with Auggie. What amazing characters and a truly wonderful storyline. I would highly recommend you go see this movie. We got home rather late and fell into our beds, exhausted and ready for a good night's sleep.

We headed out bright and early mid-morning when she woke up on Sunday and had breakfast at a local mom and pop diner. She had Oreo pancakes and I had Nutella and coconut pancakes and we shared some hash browns.

Yum.
D didn't really have anything in mind so I helped give her some suggestions. After we finished breakfast we hit the shops and found her some new fancy boots.

Some makeup.

Some body lotion and anti-bacterial sanitizer.

And that was it. She was pretty simple this year.
We weren't quite ready to end the day so we picked a lunch spot a little bit away from where we were. We were driving on some back country roads and I wasn't quite sure of the quickest way to get to our lunch spot. I told D the name of the restaurant and had her punch it in to Google Maps. We drove along, following the directions given, singing along to the radio.

After a while, we passed a sign welcoming us to the next town. A town that was in the opposite direction of where we should be heading.

Uh-oh.

I asked D what the street address was of the restaurant she had punched in. It was about twenty five miles farther away. Turns out there are a couple restaurants with the same name. I forgot to tell her what town.

Oh, brother.

I pulled over and we had some laughs. We turned around and eventually got to the right restaurant and ate some very tasty Mexican food.

We decided to close out the day with some bubble tea since we both love it. We are very happy there is a place that sells it on a local university campus. We've been looking for some place close to home for quite a while and now we've found it.

I see a lot of bubble tea in our future.

Happy birthday, D!
