Stuffing Day

One of my favorite days of the year - stuffing day!

Sissy and the girls came over, dragging a friend along with them, and K and little man were here as we gathered to make Nan's stuffing.

E used some of her uncle's new kitchen knives to chop up the fatback. She loved those knives. Her mother was scared of them. She watched E like a hawk and kept counting all her fingers.
D and the friend were in charge of toasting the bread. There's a fine balance between bread that's toasted too light (white stuffing) or bread that's toasted too dark (black stuffing).

Neither is appealing.

You have to get the color JUST RIGHT, Goldilocks. And they did.
While the girls and I were making the stuffing, Sissy was chopping up potatoes and squash. K was making Grandma's pumpkin bread.

It's the best pumpkin bread in the whole world.
We made extra loaves to give away to family and friends.

They're going to love us.
Little man's first year at stuffing day. Looks like he's ready to eat!

The Man was in charge of food shopping for Thanksgiving. I was busy with K and the bridesmaids looking for dresses. I gave him a list and went over it with him, checking it twice, to make sure he knew what he was buying.

I told him, "Get four loaves of white bread. Not wheat. White."

"Yes," he said, making me think he understood I meant for him to get white bread and not wheat bread.

He came home with wheat bread.

In his defense, the bread wrapper says "White Bread" in big letters below the words "100% Whole Wheat" in smaller letters.

Man eyes.
