Alaska, The Great White North. Glacier Bay.

Glacier Bay.

This was a day at sea and we spent the whole day watching the glacier. The boat stopped in front of it for several hours. We were able to find a table for lunch next to some windows and have a great view for our meal.
As we were eating, none of us wanted to get up in case we missed the glacier calving. Calving is when a piece of the glacier breaks off and falls into the water.

You're watching for the splash at the bottom of the glacier. Just like the one above.

The Man missed this one because he got up to go get some more food. We had assured him he wasn't going to miss anything since we hadn't seen the glacier calve at all. We didn't think we would since we had been told you don't always get to see this happen.

As soon as he was away from the table, SPLASH!

A huge piece broke off and hit the water. Unbelievable timing. None of us had the heart to tell him. Luckily we saw a few more pieces calve that day. It must have been warmer than usual.
The layers were cool to see.

And that cave. I would not want to go in there. There's probably polar bears in there.
I was obsessed with the blue tones in the glacial ice.
Otherworldy.
Looks like something out of a "Star Wars" movie.
Accidental picture.

I like it.
The terrain on the other side of the boat.

So different from the ice.
M and M enjoying the view.
We passed through quite a few of these guys. In some of the pictures I have, all you can see are small brown dots all over the surface of the water.

We finally realized they weren't pieces of driftwood but seal heads, bobbing in the water.
Everyone wanted selfies with that glacier.
I loved the international makeup of the people on the cruise.
Goodbye, Glacier Bay.

You are beautiful.
